Integrating sIFR with Umbraco CMS

Hello all. Well I have just come back from sunny Copenhagen where I spoke at the Umbraco conference CodeGarden09. If you missed my session or wasn’t able to attend CodeGarden09 this blog post will give you an overview of the session.

I done a talk on integrating sIFR into Umbraco with Mark Wubben, who is the brains behind the sIFR project.

Mark opened the session on the state of typography currently on the web then with myself giving a live demonstration on how to implement sIFR into your Umbraco website.

Mark has not currently uploaded the slides used at the session but as the slides are near identical to a previous talk he gave at a Drupal conference, I will link to these instead.

Hey Warren,

Nice job ... Have you considered using Cufón (http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/)?

I think it's more easy to integrate and control.

Hi Anders,
I have not tried out Cufon yet but is it flexible as sIFR?

Selectable text, links, different styling for certain parts?

Nice tutorial. I have had an idea of what sFIR is about, but i have not used it yet. Now things are much more clear and there will be no excuse og no discussion the next time the designer comes up with a "Mac-design".

Having used cufon, it is better in terms of speed (which is enough to win it for me), but no selectable text or rollover effects... yet.

Still, no rendering lag like is common with sifr on large pages

OK, I will take a look at cufon as well and maybe even do a screencast on implementing it with Umbraco as well.

Great DEMO! i was so bummed to have missed it at CG, but i was interested in the E-commerce stuff [plus that nap i had to take in the middle of day 1 :)]

Have you had a chance to use non-english characters such as š, č, ć, etc ... I always seem to get those characters omitted in display.
I'm guessing that all might be just because of sifr fonts I used, but I've tried a couple more beside the one used in CWS (even using demo display on sifrvault.com results in same behaviour), any chance you could point to some fonts capable of showing the aforementioned characters?
